Yesterday, the tilapia wades
Crevicing glowing anemone
Called stars – little beings
We wish upon love.
And you rippled these orbs
As you cast your hook,
And took the scaly animal
From her home, to eat.
I take you to the hearth –
A fire that warms our hearts
Through the soup we serve
With the sweat of our parents’ labor.
Tomatoes, tamarind, and tilapia – The first
Among the many meals we will churn
When these childish bodies grow up,
I will give you love like the fish loves the sea
